Sen. Alexander Outlines His Opposition to Revising NPS Management Policies

Share

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander has, figuratively, taken National Park Service Director Fran Mainella to the woodshed.
Senalexander_copy_2 The Republican from Tennessee, who hasn't hidden his opposition to the NPS's efforts to revise its Management Policies, laid out his concerns to his constituents with an opinion piece posted at the Chattanoongan.com.
In it Senator Alexander reiterates his worries about how the proposed rewrite could weaken the Park Service's commitment to preservation, impact air quality, and harm natural soundscapes.
"I am opposed to the proposed new management policies because I believe they would reduce the importance of conservation, impair park air quality and increase the likelihood of noise pollution," writes the senator. "Frankly, I’m not convinced a rewrite of the management policies is even necessary."
