Deadly Weekend in the Parks

The traditional Memorial Day kickoff to summer got off to a somber start in the national park system, which recorded a handful of fatalities.
In Yosemite National Park, a 20-year-old Capitola, California, man fell roughly 1,600 feet to his death from Glacier Point on Friday, the first day the road to the point was open for traffic this season.
Park rangers aren't sure whether Evan Anderson's fall was accidental. He was with friends when he fell about 8 a.m. Friday. Rangers used a helicopter to help retrieve Anderson's body, which was found about halfway between Glacier Point's 7,214-foot summit and the valley floor, which is at an elevation of 4,000 feet.
Meanwhile, over at Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials say a personal watercraft accident claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman in Lake Mohave on Friday, while a young man drowned in Lake Mead on Saturday. Later that evening a 7-year-old girl drowned after the raft she was floating on near Boulder Beach was blown out into the lake.
Definitely a sad start to the summer season.
