Yosemite Road Update

Share

In case you're wondering, the section of California 140 that runs through the Merced River Canyon just to the west of Yosemite National Park remains closed due to intermittent rock slides that have been tumbling down upon the highway since late April. Dubbed the "Ferguson Rock slide," the mix of rocks and earth have made a mess of the highway, but crews are working to build a bypass around the slide area.
Footings for a bridge downstream of the slide were poured last week, with this phase of the project expected to be completed by month's end. A second, upstream, bridge will be constructed during the second phase. You can find updates on the reconstruction work here.
