Sen. Akaka Tries to Halt Air Flights over Hawaii's National Parks

More than a few parks have issues with scenic overflights. Some purists say the planes create too much of a disturbance.
Well, U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka is moving to have such flights banned over Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park, and Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site in Hawaii. Akaka says part of the problem is the planes invade the sanctity of these sites.
"Sacred sites ... are an important resource for the Hawaiian people, and we must do what is necessary to ensure that the value of these sites is not diminished," Akaka told the Star Bulletin.
