Driver Survives 500-foot Fall at Black Canyon

Every now and then you hear about an accident and wonder how the individual survived. That's what I'm wondering after reading about a 31-year-old man who somehow survived a 500-foot plunge in his car off an overlook at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
According to park officials, Praveen Daniel, an Indian national from the Chicago area, on January 29th crashed through a fence in a 2007 Kia Optima sedan at the park's Tomichi overlook. The car fell about 500 feet before becoming wedged between the cliff face and rocks.
The car was spotted by an employee of the Delta-Montrose Electric Association who was on his way out of the park after reading meters. Had he not spotted the car, park officials say the wreck probably wouldn't have been noticed until the next day.
It took rescue crews four hours to get Daniel out of the car, up the cliff and on his way to a hospital, where he was found to be suffering mainly from bumps and bruises.
