Count the national parks in Alaska as one group among the 390 units nationwide that enjoyed an increase in visitation last year.
According to a story in the Anchorage Daily News, 2006 visitation was up 5 percent, to 2.47 million.
Most of the increased visitation in Alaska was driven by cruise-ship
traffic to three Southeastern parks -- Glacier Bay National Park, Sitka
National Historical Park and Klondike Gold Rush National Historical
Park, officials said.
