Air Pollution Advisory at Mammoth Cave

Various forms of air pollution long have besieged many of our national parks, parks such as Sequoia, Great Smoky Mountains, Cape Cod National Seashore, and others.
Well, today comes word that pollution levels at Mammoth Cave are so bad the superintendent has warned park visitors.
Levels of ozone and particulate pollution at the park are forecast to pose a threat to the health of park visitors, the park said in a release this morning. For a chart depicting the problem, which out this website.
Mammoth Cave officials say visitors and area residents might want to take it ease until the pollution levels decrease.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has identified several groups of people who are at risk from unhealthy air pollution levels: (1) those with respiratory problems such as emphysema, asthma, and chronic bronchitis; (2) individuals engaging in strenuous outdoor exercise either recreationally or at work, as well as children at play; and (3) a few otherwise healthy individuals who are especially sensitive to ozone and particle pollution and suffer greater loss of lung function than the general population.
