Grand Teton National Park officials have released the names of the two men who died in a fall from the Grand Teton earlier this week. The two have been identified as 38-year-old Alan Rooney and 28-year-old Jonathan Morrow, both of Kelly, Wyoming.
The men, who were roped together, fell and tumbled about 1,500 feet after apparently experiencing an anchor failure, according to park officials. What's unknown at this point, though, is whether their anchor pulled out or if the rock it was anchored in gave way from the mountain.
Their bodies were found at an elevation of about 10,650 feet.
While park officials thought recovery of the bodies would have to wait until early this morning when snow conditions would be firmer, rangers actually were able to make the recovery early last night.
