A freak rockfall at Glen Canyon National Monument has killed a Colorado couple that was vacationing on a pontoon boat on Lake Powell.

The couple, Mary and Donald Simmons, of Calhan, Colorado, had anchored their boat Friday in a small alcove in an area of the the lake known as Lake Canyon. Rangers say it appears as if a slab of sandstone measuring roughly 250 square feet fractured off the alcove and fell on the bow of their boat.

Mrs. Simmons' body was found at the scene, while her husband's body has not yet been recovered.

Water depths at the site of the accident are approximately 150 feet.

Maybe 'we' should return Glen Canyon back to it's original state, find the man's body and clean up everything else
that might be down there....

Don't worry the Colorado River has a long range dam destruction plan which won't need to be signed off on by the regional office or WASO.

Niece of the couple! (not verified)

Forever in our Hearts they will be. Coming up on a year and still no sign of Uncle Don. Rest in peace! Love you and miss you both still.... We still can't believe you are gone. Thank the Lord, you both knew the Lord. See you in Heaven one day!!!
