Body Found Below South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park

A body was found Sunday about 300 feet below the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Condors have led Grand Canyon National Park rangers to a body about 300 feet below the South Rim.

The body was spotted about noon today by a biologist from the Peregrine Fund who noticed "heavy condor activity concentrated in one area," a park release said.

"After hiking to a vantage point, the biologist was able to see a body about 300 feet below the rim of the canyon at Trailview Overlook on the West Rim Drive. Trailview Overlook is about one mile west of the Hermit’s Rest Road Interchange in the village at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park," the release added.

Park rangers rappeled down to the body and used a helicopter to remove it via long line. It was not immediately known whether the body was that of a 29-year-old Grand Canyon resident who has been missing since March 14.
