Searchers are on the ground in the Cedar Mountain area of Shenandoah National Park today looking for a 50-year-old man reported missing on Monday.

Park officials say Earl Funk was last seen around 1 p.m. Monday. A quick search of the area was conducted by volunteers and friends, and a more intense search by NPS and other trained resources is under way in the area today.

Mr. Funk is described as a male with brown hair and green eyes, 5-foot-8-inches tall who weighs approximately 145 pounds. It is believed that he is wearing a dark pants and a light shirt.

More than 40 personnel, including ground searchers and a dog team are involved in the search. The search is a joint operation between Shenandoah National Park and the Albemarle Sheriff’s Office. The agencies are currently being assisted by the Albemarle County Police Department and a Virginia State Police dog team.
