Take Dad to A National Park This Weekend

Share

Would dad like to celebrate Father's Day Weekend at Cape Lookout National Seashore? NPS photo.

Not only is Father's Day this Sunday, but this weekend marks the first entrance-free weekend in the National Park System this summer, so celebrate by taking dad to a park.

Of course, while Interior Secretary Ken Salazar decided to open the parks for free on three weekends this summer to encourage tourism, you shouldn't need that sort of incentive to take dad to a park this weekend.

Whether you can manage a trek all the way to Yellowstone, Yosemite or Acadia national parks, or head to Great Smoky Mountains National Park or Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park or someplace closer to your backyard, dad will have a great time.

You can go to one of the national seashores or national lakeshores to enjoy the beaches, take a day hike on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, or cruise down the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And those represent just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. For more ideas, check out the National
Park Service's website. Wherever you go, have a great weekend!
