A 52-year-old hiker has been reported as missing in Kings Canyon National Park after heading out to summit Split Mountain.
Edmundo T. Saenz was last seen Tuesday when he and his girlfriend left their camp at Red Lake with plans to hike to the top of the mountain, which is on the boundary of Kings Canyon and the Inyo National Forest. While his girlfriend turned back, Mr. Saenz continued on.
While he signed the summit register at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, he never returned to camp or his vehicle, according to park officials.
Mr. Saenz, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds, was last seen wearing a light-blue beany hat, a black down jacket, a gray zip fleece a black and blue outer shirt, and tan convertible pants. He was also carrying a bright yellow/green day back, but had no overnight gear.
Park officials ask that anyone who has seen Mr. Saenz contact Kings Canyon National Parks Dispatch at 559-565-3341.
