Here's a sale not to be missed if you find yourself near Olympic National Park in mid-December.

Beginning December 11 and running through December 24 the annual holiday sale staged by Discover Your Northwest, the non-profit association affiliated with the park, will be held at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center in Port Townsend, the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center, and the Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest Recreation Information Center in the Forks Transit Center. Not only can you pick up some pretty cool park-related items for holiday gifts, but your purchases help the park as Discover Your Northwest uses some of the revenues on projects in Olympic.

All items will be offered for 15 percent off the regular price, including books for children and adults, park-related DVDs, maps, stuffed animals, puzzles, puppets, games, hats and notecards. Featured items this year include 2010 calendars by Sequim photographer Ross Hamilton and Ken Burns’ recent documentary The National Parks: America’s Best Idea on DVD, along with the series’ companion book by Dayton Duncan.

Discover Your Northwest members, and members of other national park cooperating associations will receive 30 percent off the regular price.

While the Olympic National Park Annual Pass and the America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass will not be discounted, they are also for sale at Discover Your Northwest locations and may be purchased as gifts.

Discover Your Northwest promotes the discovery of Northwest public lands, enriches the experience of visitors, and builds community stewardship of these special places today and for generations to come. Towards this goal, Discover Your Northwest operates on-site educational bookstores that provide visitors with high-quality books, toys, DVDs, and other items that help them appreciate the natural and historical significance of the area

At Olympic, Discover Your Northwest funds the park’s winter and summer newspapers, as well as educational trail guides, and has contributed to the construction of several park nature trails. Proceeds from the $30 annual Olympic National Park Pass also benefit Olympic National Park. Eighty percent of the fee revenue collected in Olympic National Park remains in the park where it is used for projects that directly benefit park visitors, including trail maintenance, campground improvements, installation of accessible restroom and visitor service.
