Share

A backcountry traveler in Glacier National Park apparently was swept to their death by an avalanche Thursday, park officials said.

Rangers received a report of the fatality around 2 p.m. and reached the scene shortly before 6 p.m.

The victim was found at the base of Mt. Shields at the end of an avalanche slide. Mt. Shields is located on the southeast side of Glacier a few miles from U.S. Highway 2, park officials said, adding that more information would be forthcoming when available.
