Organization Description: The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is a 501 (c)(3)organization founded in 1997. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is the primary and professional private fundraising organization for the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Foundation’s primary role is stewardship of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s past, present, and future. This is accomplished by the preservation and protection of its natural and cultural resources, fostering relationships with the communities in and along the Parkway and engaging, promoting, and investing in the next generation of stewards. Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Development Director (Director) will devise and execute strategies that lead to achieving the fund raising goals established by the Board of Trustees. The Director is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation fund raising activities. The Director will: achieve a diversified mix of funding streams; develop and execute an annual fundraising plan including securing financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations, and increasing giving levels through prospecting, solicitation, acknowledgment and stewardship; be responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing relationships with major donors including creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors; manage all the data entry and gift processing; oversee fund development events and activities; oversee and manage a capital campaign; and develop and track grant proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising.
The Foundation defines this job position as a “legacy opportunity” and the most important job position that the Foundation expects to fill for the foreseeable future. This individual needs to have the capacity for vision and the skills to expand the fund development growth of the organization. The Director needs to be a supreme leader, possess integrity, be inspirational, be a visionary, and be performance oriented.
The Foundation offices are currently in Winston-Salem, N.C but expect to relocate to the North Carolina High Country (Blowing Rock) within the next 12 months.
Effectively plan, administer, and implement fundraising activities of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation in a fiscally responsible and timely manner in accordance with established policies, procedures and laws, included but not limited to:
* Annual fund campaigns
* Capital campaigns
* Tracking and data analysis
* Matching gifts programs
* Earth Share of NC campaigns (participating organization)
* Special Events
* Grant proposals
* Donor-based presentations
* Comply with fundraising laws and best practices
Actively manage a cost effective constituency development program that includes, but is not limited to:
* Donor stewardship
* New donor identification
* Donor appreciation program
* Upgrading donor activity
* Major donors and prospects program
* Corporate donor program
* Public presentations
* Develop and monitor annual budget to achieve membership goals.
Coordinate with appropriate staff in initiating and developing fund raising messages for:
* BRPF newsletter
* Other printed and mail messages
* Social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Web page, etc)
* Special Events
Other duties include but are not limited to:
• Attend and participate in Foundation board, committee and staff meetings as necessary
• Prepare periodic reports as may be required
• Perform other duties as assigned.
*Coordinate and work with the Board of Trustees, Advisory Council and Development Committee to fulfill fundraising goals
* BA or BS (required), MA or MS (a plus)
* 5-plus years successful record in development
* Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
* Proficient in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
* Experience in donor management software such as Donor Pro
* AFP certification
* Familiarity with and experience in and around the Blue Ridge Parkway
* Non-Profit fund development experience
Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000 depending upon experience. The title and salary of this position could change in less than a year based upon meeting or exceeding performance expectations from Director of Development to Vice-President of Advancement.
