Travel Delays Up to 1 Hour Possible in Sequoia National Park

For the rest of the month, travelers to Sequoia National Park could find themselves parked for upwards of an hour along the Generals Highway between the Highway 198 park entrance and Giant Forest.

Road construction along a one-and-a-half-mile stretch of pavement between Amphitheater Point and Deer Ridge will funnel traffic through a one-lane corridor at times Mondays through Thursdays through the end of August, according to a park release.

At the top of each hour between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. uphill traffic will be allowed through this area, the release said.

Between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. there could be half-hour delays along this section of the highway. Night work also will hamper travel along this section. Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. only one opportunity will arise to pass through the construction zone -- at 11:30 pm., so plan accordingly.

On Fridays one-hour delays could arise between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., the park release said.

Additionally, if you're driving an RV longer than 22 feet you're prohibited from driving the Generals Highway from Hospital Rock to the Giant Forest Museum due to road construction along that section.
