Share

How would you like this to be your job location next summer? Now's the time to apply.

Sure, sure, sure, it's only November, but that doesn't mean it's too early to think about landing a summer job at Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Cape Lookout typically hires 20 or more summer seasonal workers each year. Some of those jobs are full-time positions, some are part-time. Those available for next summer can be found at this website. Most job applications close December 10, so you better hurry if this sounds interesting.

For the 2011 Summer Season, starting in late March and ending in late September, the available positions are:

* Park Ranger, Interpretation – Interpretation staff may be called Park Rangers or Park Guides. They work in the park’s visitor centers, at the lighthouse and provide information to visitors and educational programs to school groups. Positions may be hired for full time, part-time (3-4 days a week), and interim (as needed). Positions at the GS-0090-03/01 to GS-0025/0090-05/01 level pay $11.95 to $15.00 per hour.

* Biological Science Technician – Monitors activity and takes actions to protect shorebirds, sea turtles and other wildlife within Cape Lookout National Seashore. Protected wildlife include threatened and endangered species. Positions at the GS-0404-05/01 level pay $15.00 per hour.

* Park Ranger, Protection (Law Enforcement) – Applicants must have completed a National Park Service (NPS) approved seasonal law enforcement training program and/or have possessed a NPS Type 1 or Type 2 law enforcement commission within the last three years. Protection positions at the GS-0025-05/01 level pay $18.50 per hour.

Summer positions can last up to six months, depending on seasonal workload requirements. Other positions offered may last all year on a part-time or interim (as needed) basis, making these a perfect “fill-in” job for local area residents.

Starting dates are varied to meet the needs of the position. Some positions require specific knowledge, skills, abilities or certifications. Position requirements will be listed in the Job announcement specific to that job and pay grade.

To look for these job announcements go to www.USAJobs.gov. In the search boxes, type in Cape Lookout and the zip code 28531 and then hit the “search for jobs” button at the bottom of the page. All open jobs offerings from Cape Lookout National Seashore will appear.
