Workshop On Historical Interpretation And Living History Coming To Bent's Old Fort Historic Site
A two-day workshop at Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site late next month will offer living history practitioners some insights from two nationally known speakers on the topic.
On April 28 and 29 Bent’s Old Fort Historical Association is sponsoring the workshop at the historic site, which is located in La Junta, Colorado. Scheduled to make presentations are Bill Weldon of Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and John C.F. Luzader of Living Museums of the West.
Mr. Weldon is the director of the historic area programs and artistic director for Revolutionary City for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He is also a career veteran of interpretive planning, training and historical performance. Since 1991, he has scripted, directed and performed in a variety of public programs, special presentations and video productions for historic sites across the United States. For the past five years, he has served as artistic director for Revolutionary City, Colonial Williamsburg’s interactive outdoor drama that tells the story of Williamsburg’s role in the American Revolution.
Mr. John C.F. Luzader has been involved in cultural and living history interpretation since 1961. His experience includes working for national, local and private agencies and organizations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa and China. He has published more than 600 articles on history and cultural interpretation, presented professional papers and given keynote addresses for national and international organizations. Currently he is principal of Living Museums of the West, which provides training and other interpretive services for historic sites and museums. His most recent honor is the 2010 Fellow Award from the National Association for Interpretation, the highest award the organization offers.
