A nighttime boating accident on Lake Powell in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area has killed a 15-year-old Boy Scout, who was tossed out of the boat when it rammed a rock in the dark, according to NRA officials.
A release from the NRA says the unidentified scout, from Hurricane, Utah, was riding with a group of scouts and adults when the accident occurred Thursday evening. The group was returning from a dinner on Antelope Island.
Two others in the boat sustained injuries, but were not tossed out of the boat, the release said. One of the two, another scout, was flown out of the area by Classic Lifeguard helicopter for medical attention. The adult was transported by ambulance to Page (Arizona) Hospital.
Further details of the accident were not immediately available.
The accident is under investigation by the Coconino County (Arizona) Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the National Park Service.
