Reader Participation Day: Should You Keep On Clicking To Earn A Donation For Your Favorite Park?
How do you feel about companies awarding money to national park friends groups and conservation organizations based on their popularity?
I keep getting requests via email or on Facebook to go to a website and click on a link to support a particular park. Sometimes the only way for your park to win is to keep on clicking.
On one hand, our national parks need the money. They all do. They're not getting more from our citizens so they depend more and more on friends groups to fund extra projects.
On the other hand, is this the best way to choose a Park worthy of this company's money?
Sure, it gives the company a lot of extra publicity. But it reminds me of the bumper sticker, It will be a fine day when schools have all the money they need, and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.
What do you think?
