They're not the most opulent rooms in Yellowstone National Park, but they're well-located and only $99 a night through May 24.

The Frontier Cabins that carry this special pricetag are located at Lake, next to the grand hotel.

Built in the 1920s, all of the Frontier Cabins have been renovated within the last few years. All cabins – some freestanding and others duplex-style units – include two double beds and a private bathroom with a shower. The cabins are normally priced at $135 per night.

“The Yellowstone Lake region is a particularly popular location for hikers and photographers,” said Rick Hoeninghausen, director of sales and marketing for Xanterra Parks & Resorts in Yellowstone. “There are many trailheads near the hotel for hikers, and photographers are out daily with cameras at the ready to capture the Lake area’s beautiful vistas and roaming wildlife.”

Guests staying in the cabins are just a short walk from the main hotel building -- which opens May 11 -- with its charming 1920s-style sunroom overlooking the lake, outstanding dining room and aquatic-themed gift shop.

The cabin discount occurs in advance of the park’s busiest months of June, July and August and is a good choice for travelers who prefer to visit the park when there are fewer visitors. “Generally, families visit during the prime summer months, so we typically see more couples and older visitors during the spring months,” said Mr. Hoeninghausen.

Springtime in Yellowstone is also a popular time for wildlife viewing because it is when newborn elk and bison calves, wolf pups, bear cubs and other animals make their debuts.
