If you've long wanted to spend a month in a cottage on Cape Cod National Seashore with expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean, your opportunity just might be here if you're free in August or September.
As part of its plan to maintain Park Service-owned cottages on the seashore, Cape Cod Seashore officials are going to lease out a small cottage at 222 Ocean View Drive in Wellfleet for both August and September.
"We lease many of the structures owned by the National Park Service. It's a great way to maintain the houses rather than watch them decay over time," says seashore Superintendent George Price.
Now, the one-bedroom cottage doesn't look like much from the outside, but it has been substantially updated inside and features ample woodwork, both in the floors, walls, and even ceilings.
The house is fully furnished, including a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, range, dishwasher, as well as plates, bowls and cooking utensils. The large open floor plan has beautiful views and a warm inviting interior. The house sleeps 4, including a queen size bed and full size futon bed. The walkout basement has plenty of room for storage, as well as a washer and dryer. The house includes off-street parking and an outdoor shower. Cottage also includes a TV and DVD player.
The cottage is available for 30-day leases in August ($8,000 for the month) and September ($4,800). Applications are available on-line and are due at national seashore headquarters by 4 p.m. on July 13.
The lessee will be selected through a blind lottery and notified by July 16.
You can see more photos of the cottage at this website, and find a lease application on the site as well under "Additional Documents."
For questions about the property or leasing application contact Cape Cod National Seashore Administrative Officer Ted Nicholson at 508-957-0736.
