Acadia National Park Moving To Winter Hours For Facilities

Come month's end they'll be moving to winter hours at Acadia National Park in Maine, where the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and Sand Beach Entrance Station will both close on Halloween.

That means that beginning November 1, visitor information will be available at the Winter Visitor Center at park headquarters on Route 233, except on Thanksgiving Day, December 24 and 25, and January 1. And in January and February, the Winter Visitor Center will not be open on weekends.

Most of the Park Loop Road will close on December 1 unless there is a major snowstorm before then. Two miles will remain open, from Schooner Head overlook to Otter Cliff Road. Access to this section is via Schooner Head Road in Bar Harbor. Jordan Pond can also be accessed via Jordan Pond Road in Seal Harbor. During November, park roads may close temporarily, depending on the weather.

Camping at Blackwoods Campground will be primitive tent camping only beginning on December 1 and lasting through March 31. The access road to Blackwoods will not be open or plowed. Camping will require walking in and carrying everything out and is free of charge during these dates, but a permit must be obtained in advance at park headquarters on Route 233.
