Tour Winsor Castle at Pipe Spring National Monument by lanterns during the monument's annual holiday gathering on December 4. NPS photo.
To mark the holiday season, the folks at Pipe Spring National Monument are offering tours of historic fort Winsor Castle by lanterns and starlight on December 4.
Winsor Castle By Night provides a once a year opportunity for the public to visit the historic home at night, complete with Victorian era decorations and lighted with oil lamps. Visit the fort beteen 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at your leisure, chat with costumed rangers and volunteers about holidays past, and sing a carol or two around the pump organ. Enjoy fiddle music and conversation with the ladies of the Kanab All Women’s Town Council from 1911.
Stop by the chuckwagon for hot cider and warm up by the fire. At the Visitor Center, try your hand at making an old-fashioned holiday decoration, browse the museum, watch the Pipe Spring film “Encounter on the High Desert,” and take advantage of the holiday sale at the Pipe Spring giftshop.
Regular entrance fees apply ($5.00 per adult, 16 and older). Interagency Annual, Senior, Access, and Military passes are accepted and available. Pipe Spring is 15 miles west of Fredonia, Arizona, on Arizona 389, or 45 miles east of Hurricane, UT on UT 59 and AZ 389.
