Car Break-ins Reported At Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Heading to Lake Mead National Recreation Area for spring break? Don't leave any valuables in your rig. Park rangers report a number of break-ins of vehicles in recent weeks at some of the NRA's most-popular hiking trails.

"Criminals are breaking windows and removing valuables left in plain sight, as well as glove boxes and consoles," said Adam Kelsey, deputy chief ranger. "We want our visitors to be aware of these crimes of opportunity so they can protect themselves by removing all valuables from their vehicles."

In the past 30 days, six break-ins were reported at the Gold Strike Canyon Trailhead parking lot, which is located two miles west of the Hoover Dam off U.S. Highway 93 in Boulder City.

Six additional break-ins were also reported at other locations; two at the White Rock Canyon Trailhead parking lot, two at the Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail parking lot, one at the Alan Bible Visitor Center parking lot and one at Kingman Wash.

Extra patrols have been scheduled in these areas. Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity within the park or who has information related to these incidents should call 702-293-8998.
