After more than two decades, the common loon has returned to La Mauricie National Park in the Canadian province of Quebec.
Several pairs of loons, a symbol of Canada that's immortalized on that country's $1 coin, have been spotted on the park's lakes since the start of summer.
Parks Canada officials say "this most welcome return is thought to be the result of concerted conservation and awareness-building actions."
Located in the Laurentian mountain range, La Mauricie National Park is preserved as a representative sample of the southern part of the Canadian Shield. The park is located in the centre of Quebec, north of Trois-Rivières, halfway between Québec and Montréal.
