Fur Trade Encampment At Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site Victim Of Shutdown

Share

Anyone planning to attend the Fur Trade Encampment at Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site this coming weekend can look for something else to do. The encampment has fallen victim to the ongoing government shutdown.

Park officials says that even if the government were to reopen before the end of the week, there is not enough time for park staff to finish preparations for the event.

“Many of our volunteers come from a great distance, including other states,” said park Superintendent Alexa Roberts. “We did not want any of them driving hundreds of miles only to be turned away. At this point, we just felt this was the right decision for everyone in order to remove the uncertainty.”
