Kayaker Dies On First Day Of Grand Canyon Float Trip

Share

A 43-year-old German just embarking on a multi-day trip down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park has died in a river accident.

Park officials say Hans Uhl was in a kayak and capsized in Badger Rapids at river mile 8 Wednesday afternoon.

"The safety boat was able to reach the kayak and found the victim initially responsive, but he soon lost consciousness," a park release said. "Members of the party initiated CPR that was continued by responding National Park Service medical personnel. All attempts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful."

The man was part of a commercial river trip that had launched earlier Wednesday.
