Reserve Your Cabin At Cape Lookout National Seashore

You can reserve a cabin at Cape Lookout National Seashore beginning January 5/Kurt Repanshek

It wasn't too long ago that the cabins at Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina closed for the winter, but it won't be long before you can reserve one for next summer.

The cabins on Great Island and Long Point will open for the 2015 season on March 16, and close for the year on November 28. You can reserve one beginning January 5 at 10 a.m. EST via recreation.gov.

Don't think these are charming log cabins, though. They are often referred to as fisherman's cabins. They're barebones and rustic, but they are on the seashore just a few steps from the Atlantic. There are even fish-cleaning stations set up near the cabins. But families seeking a beach vacation might consider them too rustic, with their plywood interiors, wooden bunkbeds (bring your own linens/sleeping bags), and lack of electricity.

Still, surrounded by sea oats and sand dunes, with the beach a few minutes' walk away, they can be great accommodations.
