Here's a quick rundown on what you can do at Mount Rushmore National Memorial/Kurt Repanshek

Planning to visit Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota this summer? Here's a quick rundown on what to do and when to do it.

Visit the new Youth Exploration Area to enjoy scheduled Junior Ranger programming. Look for the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota Heritage Village to learn about life for the plains tribes.

* Throughout the summer check the Information Center for the daily schedule of ranger programs.

* Everyone is invited to attend the evening program and lighting ceremony. The program is offered nightly at 9 p.m. through August 8, weather permitting. Beginning August 9, the evening program start time will change to 8 p.m. continuing through September 30.

* A park movie, museum, and bookstore are located at the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center. Both the Visitor Center and the Information Center are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. See Borglum’s original model at the historic Sculptor’s Studio open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Rent a self-guided audio tour from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Audio Tour building.

* The parking facility will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. through August 8. Beginning August 9 the hours will change to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The hours for the Xanterra Dining Room, Gift Shop and Memorial Ice Cream Shop are:

May 22 – August 8

Gift Shop 8 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Carvers Café 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Ice Cream 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

August 8 – September 30

Gift Shop 8 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Carvers Café 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Ice Cream 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
