Another Break In Transcanyon Pipeline At Grand Canyon National Park

Share

Yet another break in the Transcanyon Pipeline that carries water across Grand Canyon National Park, and that means no drinking water at the Cottonwood Campground along the North Kaibab Trail or at Manzanita Rest Area.

Park officails say the break occurred during the weekend in an area north of Phantom Ranch known as the Box.

Crews were working to repair the break Monday, and hope to have it back in service sometime this week. Until then, drinking water is available at Phantom Ranch, according to park staff.

All Grand Canyon National Park trails remain open. Visitors hiking the inner canyon trails must be self-sufficient and be prepared to carry or treat all drinking water. The National Park Service encourages all hikers to be prepared.

Pipeline breaks at the Grand Canyon are not uncommon and the National Park Service is usually able to maintain operations without significant disruptions to visitors. Visitors planning to use the North Kaibab, South Kaibab, and Bright Angel trails in the next several days may contact the park’s Backcountry Information Center at 928-638-7875 with any questions.
