Golden Gate National Recreational Area Holding Meeting On Beach Fire Permits

Share

In an ongoing effort to come up with rules for beach fires at Golden Gate National Recreation Area, park officials have scheduled a public meeting for September 24 to go over proposed guidelines and permitting.

Under the proposal, permits would cost between $25 and $35 and would be available up to 30 days in advance via on-line reservations or via the phone. There would be a ban on beach fires from November through February to give the beaches a chance to "rest."

The winter ban "is in response to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's request to consider a restriction during 'Winter Spare the Air Season'," the Park Service said.

Draft Permit Conditions:

* Required for all fire pits at all times.

* Group size limited to 25, larger groups go through the existing permit process.

* Non-transferable.

* Permit holder present at all times.

* Permit signatory must be 18 years old.

* Security deposits not required.

* Permits would be cancelled if a Spare the Air Day is in effect.

* Permit cost would be refunded upon cancellation, processing fees would not be.

The meeting will be held September 24 from 6 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the County Fair Building, Golden Gate Park, 1199 9th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94122.
