Tree Removal At Grand Canyon National Park To Make Way For Water Works

Share

Nothing is terribly easy at Grand Canyon National Park when it comes to maintenance.

Need to replace some water pumps? Sounds easy, but you're going to need to find a heavy-lift helicopter if you're replacing the pumps at Indian Garden along the Bright Angel Trail below the South Rim. And to make room for that whirlybird to maneuver, you're going to need to trim the trees there.

And so, tree removal and trimming will occur adjacent to the Bright Angel Trail near the Indian Garden day-use area beginning Monday (September 28) and continuing through Wednesday.

The work may delay hikers for up to 15 minutes while crews take down tree limbs and trunks. To ensure the trail is cleared and it is safe to pass, hikers should listen to and follow all directions from crew members.

Next year, the park plans to use a heavy lift helicopter to replace water pumps at the Indian Garden pumphouse. This tree trimming and removal project will provide safe helicopter operations.
