Firefighters Tuesday were aggressively attacking a wildfire that flared up Monday night just north of the Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park.

The fire, estimated at about 100 acres in Indian Canyon above the north rim of the valley on both sides of the Lehamite trail, was being attacked from the ground and from the air via four air tankers and two helicopters, park staff reported.

The Tenaya Fire was spotting among dead trees, creating much of the large smoke plume seen from the Yosemite Valley.

Temperatures were expected to drop overnight, which should help firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Smoky conditions were likely to persist over the next few days.

Trails on the north rim of Yosemite Valley south of the Tioga Road and east of Yosemite Creek, to near Olmsted Point, are closed.
