National Park Service crews searched Lake Powell for a Wyoming man who jumped from a 90-foot cliff into the water but failed to surface/NPS

Efforts were ongoing to locate a Wyoming man who jumped from a cliff into Lake Powell at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area but failed to surface.

Park officials said the 28-year-old Jackson man jumped off a cliff in Face Canyon roughly 90 feet above the lake on Friday. Bystanders immediately searched, but were unable to locate him. The National Park Service, Coconino County (Arizona) Sheriff’s Office and Utah State Parks responded to the scene and searched the area.

Due to the water depth in excess of 150 feet, a remotely operated vehicle was dispatched to the area. Search efforts continued through Friday evening and resumed Saturday with no luck. The interagency search continues with vessels, dive team, ROV specialists, and law enforcement.

The incident is currently under investigation by the National Park Service and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.
