At a time when books are commonly read on electronic devices, coloring books for adults have become a publishing phenomenon, rising to the top of sales charts and taking up prominent space at bulk retailers. Now, park lovers of all ages can color in scenes from Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone: Color It Wild offers inspiration for those who enjoy these books as well as an inviting format for those discovering this hobby for the first time.
“The book encourages visitors to take a journey around the Grand Loop of Yellowstone and experience the park through art and words,” the park said in a release. “Coloring enthusiasts can use their inspiration to color and create illustrations or doodles of their own that conjure memories of their time exploring Yellowstone.”
The coloring book features 26 regional artists and writers inspired by the scenery of Yellowstone. It includes illustrations, short essays, poems, and inspiring historical and contemporary quotes.
To celebrate the release of the book and the ongoing role of arts in national parks, Yellowstone will host a monthly Visiting Artist Outreach Program throughout the summer. Featured artists will provide opportunities to group color and to explore the artist’s preferred medium.
Yellowstone: Color It Wild is a collaborative effort between Yellowstone National Park, the Yellowstone Association, and the Montana State University Institute on Ecosystems. The 76-page softcover book sells for $14.95 at Yellowstone Association park stores and online.
