Cape Cod National Seashore crews once again are rebuilding the public stairs that lead down to Nauset Light Beach. The work has been somewhat annual in recent years, as winter storms exact a toll on the wooden stairs.

National Seashore Superintendent George Price says the work will get under way today, June 15, and should be done in time for the Fourth of July weekend.

At the same time, seashore staff is working with consultants to "evaluate options and costs for future development of a modular beach access structure that can be easily removed before winter storms and reinstalled in the spring after the threat of heavy erosion has passed."

You also should know that the beach's current bathhouse facilities will be removed after this summer season because of the ongoing erosion of the bluff. Funding has been requested and plans for future bath house facilities are being developed.
