Share

A 73-year-old woman on a private river trip through Dinosaur National Monument apparently fell 120 feet to her death from a cliff above the Green River.

The unidentified woman apparently fell sometime Monday night or early Tuesday, a release from the park said.

According to the reporting party, the group launched on the Green River on Monday from Gates of Lodore. They rafted the 2.5 miles before setting up camp for the night at the river campsite. Sometime during the night or early morning, the victim is believed to have climbed a slope to the west of the campsite and then fell off the cliff. The victim was found Tuesday morning. A member of the trip rowed the 2.5 miles upriver to report the fatality.

The recovery team arrived back at Gates of Lodore shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday with the victim's body. Her name was being withheld until family had been notified.

The group had camped at the "Wade and Curtis" campsite on the Green River in the Canyon of Lodore in the Colorado portion of the national monument.
