A teenager who apparently ran away from a service detail on Thursday was found Saturday morning in Grand Teton National Park and taken to a Jackson, Wyoming, hospital for a welfare check before being handed over to the Teton County Sheriff's Department, park officials said.

Fauna Jackson, 16, who had cut her long blond hair and colored it, was found about 8 a.m. Saturday, a park release said.

Teton Interagency Dispatch Center received a report of a possible sighting of Jackson on Friday evening. Additional possible sightings of her and follow-up activities by park law enforcement rangers and officers with Teton County Sheriff's led to her location Saturday near the Snake River Overlook, approximately 3-4 miles from the point she was last seen. An early morning flight by the Wyoming Civil Air Patrol contributed to finding Jackson.

"Jackson changed her appearance by cutting and dying her hair, was wearing different clothes than when last seen, and when approached by law enforcement officials she fled. The details of the incident are under investigation," the park release said.

According to an earlier release, the teen was last seen on Thursday at about 8:45 a.m. on the east side of US Hwy 89 southwest of Triangle-X Ranch. A member of a Groundwork USA team working on a service project in the park, she disappeared during a bathroom break, the park said.
