Grand Canyon Boatman Goes Missing From Commercial Trip

Share

A search was expected to get underway at daybreak Tuesday for a river guide for a commercial outfitter who went missing from his group roughly halfway through Grand Canyon National Park.

Park officials were notified Monday that Joshua Tourjee, an O.A.R.S. guide from Moab, Utah, failed to return to camp Sunday evening. According to a park release, the 34-year-old man "was last seen wearing lime colored short sleeve shirt and dark colored shorts with an inflatable pool raft, possibly in the shape of a black swan."

The group had been camped near River Mile 137 in an area known as Pancho’s Kitchen.

Due to high winds Monday, the National Park Service has been unable to transport searchers into the canyon. Weather conditions dependent, search crews will be flown into the Canyon first thing Tuesday morning, the release said.
