The updates for npshistory.com and parkscanadahistory.com have now been placed on the web. For January I moved the NPS Centennial information within npshistory.com and updated some of the images for many of the submenus. The Centennial webpage link still exists (http://npshistory.com/centennial/index.htm), but it has been moved to under Digital Library (it had a prominent top-level link for 2016). This month, we have a pretty robust update covering a wide range of topics with emphasis on wildlife management and paleontology. North Cascades National Park and John Day Fossil Beds National Monument are our featured parks this month.

Canada turns 150 years old in 2017, so we have a small redesign of parkscanadahistory.com in honor of the sesquicentennial. Each month, we’ll be highlighting a specific province or territory and the national parks and historic sites of that province/territory. For January, we begin on the eastern coast of Canada with Newfoundland and Labrador. For 2017, we’ll also have two Books of the Month (English and French editions) — for January, Donald Creighton’s, Canada: The Heroic Beginnings / Canada: Les Débuts héroïques. Also of note are the two five-volume editions (English and French) of The Underwater Archaeology of Red Bay, which won the 2009 Keith Muckelroy Memorial Award as issued by Britain's Nautical Archaeology Society.

All new studies, reports, and books for both npshistory.com and parkscanadahistory.com are listed below. Once again, we are averaging more than 25,000 unique visitors every month. Please take time to look at this material and forward this information to anyone you know who may be interested in having access to our vast library of National Park Service and Parks Canada history documents on the web. -- Harry Butowsky.
