Falling Tree Kills Woman In Yosemite National Park

Share

A 20-year-old woman working in Yosemite National Park was killed when a falling tree hit her in Half Dome Village, previously known as Curry Village, in Yosemite Valley.

A park release said Destiny Rose Texeira Borges, 20, from Ceres, California, was killed about 10 a.m. Sunday when the tree fell amid high winds and heavy snowfall. She was in the park working for a company contracted by the park concessioner.

Half Dome Village is an area that has tent cabins and wooden cabins that are utilized by park visitors and park employees. The area was closed Sunday after the incident, but reopened to visitors Monday morning.

An unneccessary loss of life is always sad, but someone so young and just starting on their adult adventures is doubly so.
