National Park Service Vs. Beavers Along The Natchez Trace Parkway

Beavers are part of the wild kingdom along the Natchez Trace Parkway, but the engineering rodents have been creating problems for surrounding landowners with their dam building. While National Park Service crews at times have to breach the dams, a team from NASA has been working with the agency to develop solutions for dealing with the beavers.

Record Visitation Strained Some National Parks This Year, Creating Concern Over What 2016 Might Bring

That twist on the National Park Service's "Find Your Park" campaign leading into the agency's centennial year was voiced this year in some parks as record visitation strained staff and impacted resources and left Park Service managers wondering how high visitation might go next year, according to a sampling of parks by the Traveler.

Nearly $800,000 In Grants Go To Support Arts In The National Park System

America’s national parks have inspired artists for generations. As the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Park Service commemorate milestone anniversaries in 2015 and 2016, the NEA will award $797,500 to support 33 projects to a special grant initiative called “Imagine Your Parks”, which encourages the American public to celebrate the arts at national parks around the country.

On Saturday, January 2, Big Thicket National Preserve staff will lead a guided walk on the Kirby Nature Trail and Sandhill Loop Trail. This 4.5-mile hike will explore the diverse ecosystems of the Big Thicket, including mixed hardwood forests, baygalls, cypress sloughs, riparian floodplains, and longleaf pine uplands.
