You could call it the "Rise of the Amphibians," but at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area it's simply a seasonal event: the rise of spotted salamanders, newts, and other critters that are in an amorous mood and on the move.

UC Berkeley And The National Parks: A Centennial Retrospective

A much publicized conference, Science for Parks, Parks for Science: The Next Century, opens today at the University of California, Berkeley. Led by the National Park Service and National Geographic Society, conference sponsors propose “to launch a Second Century of stewardship for the parks, 100 years after the historic meetings at UC Berkeley that helped launch the National Park Service.” A specialist on those meetings, Dr. Alfred Runte reports on why the story does not end there.

Reforestation Continuing At Flight 93 National Memorial

On April 17-18 the National Park Service, the National Park Foundation, and Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial are continuing a major reforestation effort that will eventually result in 150,000 new trees at Flight 93 National Memorial, the nation’s permanent memorial to the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93, and all of those lost on September 11, 2001.

Conference Will Use "Back to the Future" Theme to Look Ahead At Science In The NPS

Bells To Ring On April 9 To Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Appomattox Surrender

Special events on April 9, 2015, at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and Independence National Historical Park will be part of a nationwide observance of the 150th Anniversary of General Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, Virginia. That surrender marked the symbolic but not the final end of the Civil War.

Joshua Tree National Park Looking For Some Volunteers Who Can "Cut The Mustard"

Joshua Tree National Park is looking for some volunteers to help with the fight against non-native weeds that are creating a host of problems, and one project requires some folks who are able to both cut--and pull--the mustard. Projects set for April 4 and 11 will target Sahara mustard plants.
