Voyageurs National Park To Have New Headquarters Complex In 2011

Share

Planning is under way to land the staff at Voyageurs National Park a new headquarters facility at International Falls, Minnesota, next year.

The facility, which will include a maintenance complex, will be located on a 10-acre site about 2 miles east of the city along the Rainy River. The complex, to include 38,500-square feet of facility space, will be built to attain a silver level of LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification and is to be an initial cornerstone building for other private and public riverfront development expected in the years ahead, the park has announced.

The design theme of recreation, area history, and the northwoods lifestyle sets the stage for this site development.

Access to the Rainy River and boat docks will be provided from the headquarters building for employee and visitors alike through a network of trails.

The headquarters facility is scheduled to be completed and operational during the spring of 2011.

Maybe with a new building they can return phone call in a timely manor and not take two weeks after your home from your trip to return your CALL.

Voyageurs Question (a little off-topic). Can anyone recommend a place near the Rainy Lake Visitors Center where I might rent a kayak?

Justin

Please check out the new edition of the park's newspaper at http://www.nps.gov/voya/parknews/upload/2010%20Rendezvous%20Final.pdf - on page 14 all commercial outfitters in the region are listed, you have to contact the ones in the Rainy Lake area, whether they offer canoes for short or longer trips. And you might want to read the newspapers information on guided canoe tours, if that is an option for you. Have fun.

MRC,

Thanks for the lead!

Justin

Do we know yet if this will be a visitor center with interpretive exhibits, or is it just a headquarters for administrative purposes?
