"Give A Lincoln" To Help Preserve National Park Service Sites Tied to the Former President

Share

While the 200th anniversary of President Lincoln's birth has passed us by, that doesn't mean you still can't help preserve not just his memory but places in the National Park System tied to Honest Abe.

Through the end of 2009 the National Park Foundation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the History Channel are hoping you'll "Give A Lincoln For Lincoln™."

The goal of the campaign is to encourage people of all ages to donate Lincoln-head pennies, five dollar bills, or make larger donations online to help preserve six key sites associated with the 16th president's life and legacy. Schools across the nation are leading the way in this effort with students creating Lincoln-themed coin boxes to collect their own Lincolns for Lincolns.

Donations collected through program will benefit six specific sites:

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Site in Hodgenville, Kentucky

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City, Indiana

Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois

President Lincoln’s Cottage at the Soldiers’ Home in Washington, D.C.

Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site in Washington, D.C.

Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™ program aims to raise a minimum of $200,000, or $1,000 for every year since President Lincoln’s birth. The campaign is part of a larger education and outreach effort spearheaded by HISTORY™ in honor of the Lincoln Bicentennial.

The National Park Foundation, HISTORY™, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation work every day to support historic sites that preserve America’s history in the places where it happened. GIVE A LINCOLN FOR LINCOLN™ urges all Americans to celebrate President Lincoln’s Bicentennial by making contributions to help protect the sites that preserve his legacy for future generations.
