Low Greens Fees at Death Valley Could Help You Forget the Heat
This just in from Death Valley....
The Furnace Creek Golf Course in Death Valley National Park is offering the “Extreme Golf Six Pack” June 6 through August 29, 2008. Golfers at the world’s lowest course where summertime high temperatures typically push 120 degrees Fahrenheit can enjoy nine holes of golf, including club rental, electric cart, three golf balls, tees and chilled bottled water for $25.
The 18-hole Furnace Creek Golf Course originally opened in 1931 and underwent a major renovation in 1997 by world-renowned golf course architect Perry Dye. Today the course measures 6,236 yards from the back tees with a course rating of 69.7 and a slope rating of 117. While not a long course in terms of yardage, it plays longer because it is 214 feet below sea level. The course also features small greens, strategically placed Palm and Tamarisk trees and water on nine holes. In 2007, it was selected by Golf Digest magazine as one of “America’s Toughest Golf Courses.”
Furnace Creek Golf Course recently achieved the designation "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS), the educational division of Audubon International.
The Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort has been welcoming guests since the 1930s. Open from mid-October through mid-May, the Furnace Creek Inn is an AAA Four Diamond-rated property featuring 66 rooms and two suites with a full array of amenities, fine dining, tennis courts and a spring-fed pool. Open year-round is the Furnace Creek Ranch. Situated adjacent to the golf course, the Ranch features 224 rooms in a casual setting, general store, spring-fed swimming pool, tennis courts and the Borax Museum.
