  • The beacon atop the South Manitou Island Lighthouse in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has been dark for years, but light is returning to the historic tower, thanks to a cooperative effort by the NPS and several generous partners.

    There's been a light station at this strategic location for many a year. A park publication notes,

  • There will be quite a bit of activity in the backcountry of Mammoth Cave National Park during the next month as crews clean up from storms and make repairs to trails and bridges.

    Trails will remain open, with some temporary, minor detours.

  • Planning to spend some time paddling at Niobrara National Scenic River this summer? Don't forget your sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat, and PFD. Oh, and you probably should leave the Mardi Gras beads, dry ice, and Styrofoam cups and coolers at home.

  • Visitors to Valley Forge National Historical Park now have a new way to enjoy the area: the park is experimenting with a free shuttle around the park through the end of August.

  • National Trails Day falls on Saturday, June 6, and the folks at Shenandoah National Park have plenty of ways for you to celebrate.
