With such great natural wonders like the layers of rock in the Grand Canyon, the delicate formations of Arches, the geysers of Yellowstone, and the caves of Carlsbad, it is sometimes easy to forget that the Park Services is much more. Did you know that most of the monuments in Washington D.C. are protected by the Park Service? This includes the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and even parts of the White House. In 2003, when asked by the Washington Post whether there was enough park police to protect the public and the monuments, Teresa Chambers who was then the chief of the United States Park Police responded: "No".
